With the weather in New England (finally) warming up, it’s a great time to get organized for spring. Here are some tips to help you make a smooth transition.
Swap out Seasonal Clothing
Let’s start by making room for the spring & summer clothes. First, assess winter items and decide if there is anything that you don’t want to save for next year. Donate or toss anything you no longer love. If there are any clothes that could use a wash before storing, now’s your chance. Store clothes in vacuum seal bags, bins, or garment bags to keep them organized, save space, and protect your clothes. Last but not least, label!
Repeat the process for spring and summer clothes. Before hanging clothes for the new season, get rid of anything you no longer want or need. Organize your summer and spring clothes however you like best: by type (shirts, pants, dresses) or by color, if that’s your style. Take note of any gaps in your wardrobe that may need replacing or updating for the season. Create a list and consider shopping for the essentials.
Don’t forget to swap out accessories and shoes. Store away winter hats, gloves and scarves. Break out the sunglasses and sun hats. Switch out winter boots for spring shoes and sandals.
Deep Clean Inside and Out
Spring cleaning is an opportunity for a well needed deep clean. Pay attention to areas in your home that may have been neglected during the winter like windows, blinds, and carpets. Swap out decorative items for spring like pillows, throws, and art. Brighten up your space for the new season.
Prep outdoor spaces for spring. Clean outdoor furniture and equipment. Check seasonal items like fans, air conditioners, garden tools, and lawn mowers to make sure they are in good working condition. Prep the garden: clean away debris and make plans for new planting.
Clean out the car. Let’s be honest, who wants to spend time cleaning out the car in the cold? Take advantage of a warm day and declutter your vehicles.
Set Goals
This is the ideal time to refresh your space as well as your goals. This is a great time to revisit, review and update your goals for the year. This can include personal, professional, or organizational and household goals. Setting spring goals can help you embrace the season and create a more organized lifestyle!
